Gamma Phi Alumnae of Fort Worth

Happy August!

I love this time of year. You can catch a whiff of “back-to-school” lingering in the air which means it is time to join our sister’s in recruitment and philanthropic endeavors.

We are so excited to share these events with two fabulous campuses: TCU & TWU. These collegiate chapters are full of women who are exuberant and service-oriented. I cannot wait to help them in the days ahead. Be sure to watch your inbox for volunteer opportunities to show them you feel the same.

We also have some philanthropic opportunities on the horizon. Today is a clean up day at our Camp El-Tesoro. We hope that Gamma Phi will be represented among the workers. Details of the YMCA Trinity Trot should also be out soon, so make sure you sign-up to be involved.

Go Gamma Phi!

May Wrap-Up

We have had quite a few activities lately. It was so good to see so many of you at the Mother-Daughter Tea.  I hope that will become an annual event as it was fitting for all ages. Thank you to Laura West Strawser for all the planning, and a special thank you to Susan Kruse for opening up her home and being such a gracious host. Picture to be added later!

We are currently planning our calendar and schedule for the 2010-2011 year.  We hope that each of our members will take the opportunity to share the year with us.

International Day of Service

Day of Service with TCU – Monday, March 22, 7:00 – 8:30

TCU Chapter House

Financial contributions to philanthropies are great and truly appreciated, but when is the last time we actually spent time giving back to an organization.

That is why Gamma Phi Beta International created Day of Service – a day where collegiates and alumnae can get together and give back with their time and talents.  Day of Service suggests reaching out to girls and making a connection with them suggesting ideas like sharing a meal, cooking together, or drawing pictures for each other.

CU Zeta Chi Chapter has invited the Greater Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter to join them for their Crescent Values meeting on Monday, March 22 from 7:00 – 8:30pm to write letters to girls attending Camp El Tesoro this summer.  Camp El Tesoro is our local Campfire USA camp and a benefactor of Gamma Phi Beta Foundation.  We all know camping is a way to build friends, self-esteem, and self-confidence, but sometimes it takes a little assistance.

That is where we come in.  Our Day of Service is going to be dedicated to writing letters to campers that need a little support.  Like having a pen pal, we will write to an individual anonymous camper so that they get a little encouragement while away at camp.  When a camper is homesick and missing family and friends, or may not have a great support system at home, nothing beats receiving mail at camp.  A letter is a great way to get a little attention and excitement in your day.

So please join us on Monday night, to show our support of Day of Service and encourage campers attending El Tesoro this summer.  We need your help, and hope to see you there!

Help Us Improve Your Alumna Experience!

A successful chapter is one who has satisfied members – members who feel their experience is worth their time, money and energy. Chapter leaders work hard each day to provide a valuable experience for their members. Oftentimes, chapters get caught up in the same old routine and don’t take the time to reflect on what is working well and what might be improved.

In order to help the executive board of the Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter understand and meet your needs as members, we have created a short, 5-minute member satisfaction survey that will provide every member the opportunity to share her thoughts. The purpose of the survey is to use this information as we work towards the betterment of the chapter.  Your survey answers will be completely confidential, but we encourage you to provide your contact information at the end of the survey. Please click HERE to access the survey, or if you are having trouble with the link, cut and paste the following Web site address into your browser:

Thanks so much and please let me know if you have any questions. For details on our upcoming events, sign up for our newsletter on our Web site. Thank you for taking the time to help us understand how to make this a more rewarding experience for you!

Greetings Sisters!

Isn’t technology fantastic?  Here we have a blog for all of us to share our ideas and comments.  A way for the Gamma Phi Sisterhood in Fort Worth to grow ever closer together.  We hope to share pictures and stories.  Our executive board met on Sunday at McKinley’s on University and really enjoyed chatting about upcoming events.  We are really working hard to create an experience that we all will enjoy.

We also found out that Saturday will be the Panhellenic Annual Forum where senior high school girls can find out about recruitment of all sororities and what they can expect along the way.  Check out the announcement from Laura to come…
